A Hull shopping centre has risen above some of the country's biggest retailers to be crowned the UK's Retail Destination of the Year.
St Stephen's in Ferensway was handed the prestigious accolade at a ceremony in London last night.
Sponsored by Retail Week, the awards are judged by some of the biggest names in the industry, including the chief executive of Asda, B&Q, Marks & Spencer and the British Retail Consortium.
St Stephen's has recently won a string of awards for its performance, which includes growing footfall in contrast with a national downturn trend.
This includes Centre Manager of the Year Award for Jim Harris as well as a string of environmental and community accolades.
The centre was also recognised for attracting international brands that would traditionally only open in major UK cities, such as Boux Avenue, Lipsy, Superdry, Bagel Nash and Krispy Kreme.
Centre manager Jim Harris said: "The Oracle Retail Week Awards are the gold standard for UK retailers, so we're absolutely over the moon to win.
"We work really hard to make sure we have the right mix of shops and leisure facilities for our customers and we're continually improving our customer facilities, including our award-winning car park and standard of amenities.
In the past year, St Stephen's has raised £38,000 for the local community and in 2011, scooped the Mail's Contribution to the Community Award.
