A WOMAN has told of her terrifying ordeal after she met a rapist at a party.

Charlotte Newton thought Lynx Caan was her dream man but, within days, serial rapist Caan, 41, had attacked her.

Over the next two weeks, he held a knife to her face, threatened to kill her and assaulted her again.

Miss Newton, 32, said: "I was in love with him. He was the gentle giant I cuddled up to and watched films with, the man who sat there and stroked my hair, I just never guessed how bad he was.

"It was a whirlwind romance and then he became jealous and paranoid.

"At first, I thought he was being overprotective but it was far more than that.

"When he pulled the knife out, I thought he was going to kill me. I didn't think I was going to get away in one piece.

"I didn't want anyone else to go through what I did and I went to the police."

What Miss Newton did not know was that Caan had been jailed for nine years in 2000 for five rapes against two women.

Caan, who has eight aliases and is also know as Johnathan Hunt, also has three restraining orders against him from other women in the city.

Hull Crown Court heard Miss Newton started a relationship with Caan on October 4, last year, but it lasted just five weeks.

Caan, of Dayton Road, west Hull, flew into jealous rages if she received text or Facebook messages from male friends.

On the first occasion, he grabbed hold of her and pushed her against a wall.

Four days later, she received a text message from another friend and, again, Caan argued with her.

She asked him to leave and went to bed. Instead of leaving, Caan grabbed a knife from her kitchen and followed her upstairs. When she again asked him to leave, he pulled out the knife.

He pinned her down, held the knife to her face and told her, "I will kill you. Do you really want to leave me?"

Miss Newton's young son appeared at the bedroom door and Caan hid the knife until he had gone.

He then hurled the knife across the room and it became embedded in the door.

He apologised but, four days later, he assaulted her again in another argument over Facebook.

Caan, a construction worker, grabbed her by the hair, taking her phone away.

The next day, she told him she loved him in a desperate attempt to fool him and escape his clutches before calling the police.

Caan pleaded guilty to two counts of assault and making threats to kill. He has been jailed for 20 months.

Detective Constable Gemma Gallant of Humberside Police's public protection team, said: "The victim has been really brave in coming forward. He is a real danger to women. His violence towards her escalated really quickly.

"Luckily, she took these steps and has been brave enough to come forward."
