MORE than 300 people are making the most of a disabled cycling scheme in East Park.
A total of 70 adapted cycles are available seven days a week for people with disabilities to bike around the picturesque park.
They range from hand cycles to bikes with platforms which can carry wheelchairs, meaning anyone with any ability can get involved, including injured members of the Armed Forces.
Councillor Rilba Jones, portfolio holder for health at Hull City Council, said: "More than 300 people have been using the bikes and it's a wonderful scheme, one of the best in the country.
"The children have really enjoyed the roadshow and we've seen plenty of adults with disabilities try them out.
"It's given them a real sense of achievement and they've been happy to be out and about doing something different."
The scheme has 17 trained volunteers who support the adapted cycles project and are hands on taking bookings and helping people access the bike that suits their needs.
Claire Champlin, sports development officer, said people are getting great enjoyment from cycling around East Park.
She said: "I hope the roadshows have created interest for people who haven't used them before and we see more using the bikes on a regular basis."
William Bevan, 20, has used East Park cycles since the project began in 2009.
He suffers from cerebral palsy and uses the bikes with family and friends several times a week, and has also taken part in a Sky Ride.
His mum Barbara Bevan said: "William loves cycling around the park.
"He gets a lot of enjoyment seeing others playing and being involved with others using the bikes.
"He also really enjoyed Sky Ride, which gave him the opportunity to cycle in new places around the city.
"I get just as much fun out of it when I bike along with him."
Sky Ride local bike rides will be taking place throughout the summer months once again this year.
This year there will be an extra five local Sky Ride bike rides taking place with a focus on disability users.
