Children and parents marched through Beverley town centre on Saturday afternoon in protest against the closure of Dunswell Primary School.
Over 200 people gathered outside Beverley High School, Norwood, before walking through the town centre to County Hall, where a 3000-strong petition was handed to Councillor Ros Jump.
Cllr Jump will hand the petition to officials at East Riding Council on Monday.
Dunswell Primary School could be shut in July next year.
Mayor of Beverley Councillor Margaret Pinder said the council's plan was "short-sighted".
She said: "Dunswell School is an extremely successful school.
"The council is talking about building all these new houses in Beverley and new schools, but then closing one that works extremely well and is at the heart of a community.
"East Riding Council is fast getting the reputation of being a council that does not listen to what local people want."
