A man has appeared in Beverley Magistrates' Court charged with causing death by careless driving after a crash near Driffield.
Pawel Zukowski, 27, of 18th Avenue, Hull, was driving to work at a factory in Malton with four colleagues when the crash happened.
His Peugeot came off the road and hit a tree.
He was driving on the B1248 about a mile north of Tibthorpe heading north, shortly before 5.20am on Monday.
Passenger Robert Szlachetka, 43, died. The other men were all taken to hospital.
Mr Zukowski appeared in court with his arm in a sling.
He did not enter a plea and was remanded in custody to appear again before magistrates by video link on Friday, December 14.
The case will be sent to Hull Crown Court at a future date.
