HULL FC coach Peter Gentle lamented his side's inability to produce an 80-minute performance once again as they slumped to a 24-10 loss to Warrington.
Gentle pointed to an 'unacceptable' 15 minute period early in the second half as four quick-fire Wolves tries killed the game.
Hull had led 6-4 at the KC Stadium before the Wolves took complete control, and his side's sudden switch-off left Gentle scratching his head for the reason.
A similar spell against Leeds saw the Black and Whites fall apart on the opening night of the season, whilst a slow start at St Helens ultimately cost them a win.
"We have to get to the bottom of why these horrible periods keep appearing," Gentle admitted afterwards.
"After the 15-minute spell in the second half we got what we deserved. We have to start putting an 80-minute performance together because we are still only playing for 60 minutes.
"I don't know where that 15 minutes came from, although in the second half we only completed at about 55 per cent.
"We are learning a lesson along the way, but the result is still disappointing."
While Hull's second-half collapse mirrored their defeat at Leeds, overall, their performance was much better.
Despite missing key playmaker Daniel Holdsworth because of concussion, Hull proved more than a match for last season's beaten Grand Finalists for 60 minutes of a tight and entertaining affair.
On his 350th Hull performance, Richard Horne's methodical kicking game and his side's robust defence earned them a platform to win the game, before Warrington cut loose as Hull fell away.
A first Super League home defeat in nearly a year leaves Gentle's men with just one victory from their opening four games. And heading to Widnes on Saturday evening, the Aussie coach admits his side need to make further improvements.
"All sides go through adversity where you don't see a lot of the ball, but we have to be better than that," he added.
"We have Widnes this weekend and that will be a tough game up there, so we have to be a lot better.
"It is hard to see the positives at the minute because I am really disappointed.
"We showed in the first half that we were capable of matching it with them and we were in control.
"Our kicking game was good and we were going okay, so to put a 15 minute period together as we did was unacceptable.
"We have to be better than what we were. I'm disappointed in how the loss came about more than the loss itself."
HULL will monitor the fitness of Daniel Holdsworth during the week with the stand-off expected to have more tests before being given the all-clear to play at Widnes.
