Hull FC fans donned Johnny Whiteley masks on Saturday in a show of solidarity over the KC Stadium memorabilia row. Supporters were infuriated by a decision to remove pictures of Mr Whiteley and other Hull legends from the stadium. They chanted "there's only one Johnny Whiteley" in the 13th minute of tonight's game against Warrington - the first at home since the storm began. Mr Whiteley, 82, known as "Gentleman Johnny", has said the removal of memorabilia from a suite named in his honour left a sour taste in his mouth. He said: "It matters to us, because every single photograph on the wall tells an important story in this club's history." However, the Stadium Management Company insists both Hull FC and Hull City were told last summer they could buy as many or as few of 36 sites around the KC, costing £300 each for the year, in order to display photos.
Hull City owners the Allams, who control the SMC, have defended their stance on the photos and say they are not specifically targeting Hull FC. Ehab Allam said: "We really are trying to do our best for the community and the stadium. "I don't think it is fair for me to receive this amount of criticism for a small fee of £300 a year, when we are putting so much into the stadium."
