Predators who stalk your kids: Hull Daily Mail investigation reveals dangers of online chatrooms

THIS was the chilling moment a man invited a woman posing as a 14-year-old girl into his car after meeting her in an online chatroom.

But instead of the impressionable teenager he had arranged to meet in Hull city centre, he was met by the Mail.

For two months, we posed as young girls on Prodigits, a website which includes chatrooms, and uncovered widespread child grooming.

We handed over a 500-page dossier of evidence to Humberside Police, who have confirmed a Hull man has now been arrested.

Further arrests are possible as officers trawl through records, including photographs, relating to another 11 individuals.

Detective Constable Adrian Adamson, who is leading the investigation, said: "We can confirm a man has been arrested and bailed. Inquiries are ongoing."

Prior to the meeting with the man, we had exchanged messages, both texts and online.

He asked to meet at the junction of Beverley Road and Norfolk Street.

For legal reasons we are unable to identify him at this stage.

In a statement, Metin Guckan, of Prodigits, said: "We work with UK police as well as others to help the law.

"Like all other websites, we have terms and users accept them before registering so they acknowledge that they are responsible for their actions and they have to obey the rules.

"We have moderators who monitor chatrooms, user profiles, uploads, forums, etc, but for privacy reasons we don't monitor private messages unless a user is reported or an investigation has been requested.

"We store all registration, login and private data of users even if the user has deleted that account.

"We do our best to protect our users. Most of the time members posing as teenagers are fake. We ban such users as soon as we detect them.

"Prodigits is not an adult site, we don't allow adult content, sex chat or anything related.

"When we spot an older user seeking young members in chat or groups we ban that account from the site forever."

• Today's Mail features five pages of coverage on the investigation.
