A FORMER RAF bunker will be searched once more in a bid to solve the mystery of a missing East Riding College student.
Humberside Fire and Rescue Service will search the underground site at Bempton Cliffs as part of a training exercise.
But it will provide an opportunity to see if the body of 18-year-old Russell Bohling is inside.
A search took place at the site six days after Russell went missing in March 2010 but the brief given to the rescue teams was to find a living person.
That meant heat-sensitive cameras were used, which would be ineffective in the search of a body while flooded areas were not pumped out and searched.
A spokesman for Humberside Fire And Rescue Service said: "We plan to carry out a search and rescue training exercise at RAF Bempton.
"This search will give crews valuable training on how to search in confined space using rope rescue techniques in a realistic environment.
"Mr Bohling's family are aware of the planned training exercise at RAF Bempton and they told us this will help to offer the family some closure."
Russell's mum, Christine, said: "The fire service have been straightforward and honest with us. We need to know whether Russell's body is lying in the bunker.
"The search teams were looking for a live person last time round, that's the brief they were given."
But the family are angry the bunker had not been searched more fully.
They have always believed Russell's interest in the abandoned bunker at RAF Bempton could be key to his disappearance. The family believe Russell was murdered, but the police have always treated it as a missing person case.
Russell searched for information on RAF Bempton, which was used by a witches' coven in the 1970s, keeping information about it on a memory stick.
Mrs Bohling said: "How is it that the police conducted a 1.5km radius search of the car, searching ditches and outbuildings with search teams and mounted police for Russell's body over a number of days, but did not search the bunker?
"They knew he'd looked at online plans before leaving home.
"We are approaching our third Christmas without any news of Russell and are deeply distressed by the thought his body may have lain in the bunker all of that time."
The family also have to pay £1,000 compensation to the landowner who will need heavy machinery to open up the sealed bunker.
Russell, of West Ella, disappeared on March 2, 2010.
He left the family home for Bishop Burton College but never returned. The next day his Renault Clio was found at Bempton Cliffs.
Humberside Police said: "At this time, this is still a missing persons inquiry."
New police commissioner and crime Matthew Grove said: "In due course, I will ask the chief constable to let me know what progress the force is making with the case."
