SHE'S the only teenager in Hull to have sparkled at a European beauty pageant, seeing off beautiful competition to take third place.

Rosie-Mae Teall, 16, was crowned the Teen Face of East Yorkshire a few months back and jetted off to Paris to compete for the Face of Europe title against a fairy-tale backdrop in Disneyland.

During her three-day visit, she mixed with almost 100 contestants and was placed third in her age category out of about 20 girls.

"When I knew I'd made it to the final ten, I stepped up to the stage in floods of tears," she said.

"I never imagined I'd then come in third.

"All of the girls were perfect and a lot of them had been to beauty pageant lessons every week.

"They gave speeches about world peace and a lot of them had a real game plan.

"It was a difficult competition but I think the judges warmed to my personality."

Rosie-Mae, of east Hull, raised more than £400 for Yorkshire's Rainbow Child Foundation and brain injury association Headway.

She is a former Malet Lambert School pupil and is studying dance, performing arts and sociology at Wilberforce College.

The talented teenager has already performed in the West End production of Billy Elliot and hopes to move to London to pursue a career in musical theatre.

She said: "During the Paris trip, all of the contestants were interviewed about their experience in the competition.

"We then had to give speeches and some of the girls said they hadn't prepared anything. Of course, they had, and some delivered elaborate presentations.

"I just went up on stage and was honest and open and talked about my interests and how proud I was to be representing East Yorkshire."

Rosie-Mae went along with her sister Jessica, who was overcome with pride when her sister was given third place and presented with a sash.

"There were about 84 contestants altogether and about 50 per cent of them were English," Rosie-Mae said.

"I learnt a lot from chatting to the other girls about their different countries and languages.

"I'm proud to have been the first teenager from the area to have competed in Europe and it's been such an amazing experience.

"I don't flaunt about and usually keep a low profile but this has really boosted my confidence.

"Chico from X Factor was among the judges at the final and it was such a good laugh for him to be there."

Rosie-Mae said there are still many things she'd like to do within the local community.

"I would like to visit children at Hull Royal Infirmary over Christmas and take them some donated gifts," she said.

"I do a lot of charity work and I also volunteer and it'll be great to continue that as well as modelling.

"I also won a year's contract with Talent Talks as part of the contest, which means I could even appear in a music video in the future."
