A Hull business has been fined for causing thick black smoke over Hull by burning commercial waste.
Caspian Access and Plant Hire Limited in Cleveland Street, Hull, was prosecuted by Hull City Council's Environmental Neighbourhood Nuisance Team.
Environmental health officers went to the firm after spotting smoke rising from a fire at the back of the premises. As the air filled with thick black smoke, staff admitted burning waste rather than paying for it to be disposed of legally.
At Hull Magistrates Court, Caspian Access and Plant Hire Ltd were fined £500 and ordered to pay £250 prosecution costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
Councillor John Hewitt, portfolio holder for neighbourhoods and communities, said: "The council continues to carry out regular patrols to identify any environmental offences such as commercial burning, littering and fly tipping.
"All businesses have a duty of care to keep their commercial waste safe and to ensure it is disposed of safely."
