A NORTH Hull food company has been raided as part of an investigation into horse meat contamination.
Officers from the Food Standards Agency (FSA) and Hull City Council's Trading Standards seized computers and took meat samples from Flexi Foods Ltd in Inglemire Lane.
The company has already been embroiled in the scandal after Irish business McAdam Foods last week named it as the supplier from which the horse meat came.
The revelations first came to light when samples from a large shipment labelled as beef were found to contain up to 80 per cent horse meat.
This led to withdrawal of burgers from the shelves of Tesco, Asda, the Co-Op and Sainsbury's.
The shipment of meat was ordered from Flexi Foods by McAdam and delivered in July last year.
A routine inspection by food safety officers in September discovered labelling issues with the meat, which came from Poland.
The latest raid on Thursday morning has come on the back of three arrests in Wales for fraud, relating to the scandal.
A Hull City Council spokesman said: "Officers from Trading Standards and Environmental Health, along with FSA investigators exercised a magistrates' court warrant to enter the premises of Flexi Foods Ltd.
"The action was part of the current FSA-co-ordinated investigation into the presence of undeclared horse in meat products.
"The investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time."
More than ten million products have been removed from supermarket shelves nationally following the discovery of horse DNA in Irish-made beef burgers last month.
Tesco, Aldi, Lidl, Iceland and Findus have all had to withdraw processed beef products because of the undetected horse meat they contained.
An FSA spokesman said: "Officers entered three premises in England with local authorities and the police; one was in Hull and two in Tottenham.
"Computers and documentary evidence have been removed from these premises, as well as meat samples that have been taken for testing.
"The FSA has submitted a full file and evidence on this issue to Europol."
As the scandal over the discovery of horse meat intensifies, companies have been asked by the FSA to carry out tests on a range of products to establish the extent of the contamination.
Two meat-processing plants were temporarily shut down by the FSA earlier this week amid claims they supplied and used horse carcasses in burgers.
The Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has indicated the rules will now be tightened.
A spokesman said: "Once we have established the full facts, we will take whatever action necessary so this unacceptable situation cannot happen again."
