Alex Bruce is rated as a "50-50" chance for Hull City's clash with Derby County tonight after suffering a dead-leg in the 1-0 defeat at Brighton on Saturday. The Northern Ireland international had been deployed as a holding midfielder in the Tigers' last two outings and, should he miss out, it would leave a void likely to be filled by Corry Evans, his like-for-like replacement at the Amex Stadium. Despite falling to a frustrating defeat to the Seagulls, manager Steve Bruce will keep faith with a side whose bright play should have warranted at least a point. City's attack, the area causing most concern of late, is the only area that Bruce could choose to shuffle. Although Egyptian international Gedo remains some way off match sharpness following his arrival in English football, Nick Proschwitz is in contention to get the nod ahead of Jay Simpson as the attacking figurehead. Abdoulaye Faye (calf) remains out injured but Sone Aluko (Achilles) is making progress towards a possible return this month. The striker was involved in light training with the club's medical staff yesterday. Nigel Clough heads to East Yorkshire with a central defensive headache hindering his plans to extend Derby County's three-game unbeaten run. The dilemma surrounds who will partner Richard Keogh in the heart of his back four, with doubts hanging over Mark O'Brien and Jake Buxton. O'Brien had been initially pencilled in to start Derby's 2-2 draw at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday only for a knee injury to force him out during the warm-up. That forced Jake Buxton back into the defence after nine weeks out with his own knee problem and he reported discomfort after an unexpected run-out at Hillsborough. With Clough ruling out a move into the emergency loan market, he appears set to patch up either O'Brien or Buxton at the KC Stadium. The only other feasible option would see John Brayford switched from right-back to centre-back, with Kieron Freeman coming in out wide. Captain Shaun Barker was struck down with a knee injury last March and is unlikely to play again until next season. James O'Connor, signed from Doncaster last summer, will also miss out having tweaked a knee in training. With options limited, Clough is expected to name a largely unchanged side from the XI that lost 2-0 lead at the Owls.
