EAST Riding Conservative councillor Paul Robinson is set to be the new deputy Police and Crime Commissioner.

He will be paid £45,000 a year.

He campaigned alongside Mr Grove in the run up to last month's election.

Mr Grove, who is paid £75,000, said: "Being my deputy is a full-time job and not some political jolly.

"I expect Paul to work hard to justify his salary.

"He will be a paid member of staff with a contract of employment and very specific requirements to help deliver my targets and manifesto pledges.

"I am just one politician representing 4,500 officers and staff as well as 920,00 residents while in charge of a £180m budget.

"I cannot do this all by myself and the legislation allows a deputy to be appointed.

"The member allowances for the old police authority totaled £205,000 so this is saving the taxpayer money."

Mr Grove will resign his East Riding Council seat in the New Year but Councillor Robinson is expected to remain on the authority to represent Howdenshire.
