A WOMAN has spoken of her fear after a man chased her car off the road in a terrifying road rage ordeal.

Claire Clark, 28, believes she only narrowly escaped a physical attack because her car doors were locked and the man could not get to her.

The secretary was subjected to the violent abuse as she turned right from Middlesex Road into Saltshouse Road, east Hull, on Sunday evening at about 6pm.

Miss Clark said: "I was pulling out into Saltshouse Road and saw his car coming towards me, but there was enough distance for me to be able to pull out and get across the road to go the other way.

"He was at least six car lengths away but, as I pulled out, he sped up and started flashing his lights and bibbing his horn.

"I carried on in the other direction along Saltshouse Road towards Holderness Road and he spun around and came after me.

"At first he sped up behind me and then drove at the side of me, then he pulled out in front of me so I was forced to stop to avoid hitting him, close to Mitcham Road.

"He was really aggressive when he got out his car, he was very abusive and got to my door and started pulling at it trying to get in.

"When he realised it was locked, he started punching the window with his fist.

"I was cowering in the car trying to think of the best way to get away."

It was only when the man went to the boot of the car to get something out that Miss Clark managed to drive off.

She said: "He went off and reached into his boot and when his back was turned, I just put my foot down and drove past him.

"I saw him jump back in his car and try to chase me again but I just put my foot down, I don't know how fast I was going but I was going at some speed.

"I was absolutely terrified, I've never been more terrified in my life and luckily I lost him.

"I dread to think what he had in his boot and what he would have done to me if he had got in my car."

Since the attack, Miss Clark says she has struggled to go out on her own.

She said: "I'm still really shaken up about it, I'm a woman who has travelled around America on her own and now I'm struggling to go out the house on my own.

"It was totally unprovoked. He has clearly done this before to be able to do that type of manoeuvre and he will do it again unless he is stopped.

"I am just so grateful I had my doors locked and want to warn others to always make sure they have their doors locked."

Miss Clark, who has been driving for four years, has appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident to call the police.

She said: "You can't even really say it's road rage because I didn't do anything to him.

"I really want him caught before he does this to anyone else and hurts them.

"There were cars driving past when he was trying to smash my window – someone must have seen it.

"If anyone did see it, please come forward. This could be anyone's daughter, mum, wife or partner he does it to next time."

Driver is white male in early 20s

The driver is described as a white male in his early twenties.

He was about 5ft 9in, of slim build with strawberry blond hair.

He was wearing a dark blue tracksuit with white trainers.

He was unshaven and had blue eyes.

The man, who was driving a small midnight blue car, had a woman with long hair in the car but she stayed in the passenger seat.

The victim was driving a red Renault Scenic car.

The incident happened on Sunday at about 6pm.

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting log number 595 of February 3.
